Unbelievable: An English relegated team has sold two players for £153 million.
West Ham United, nicknamed the "Hammers," who were relegated from the English Premier League to the Championship, have had an outstanding summer transfer window.
It started with the sale of Portuguese midfielder Matheus Fernandes to Tottenham Hotspur, known as the "Spurs," for a huge fee of £85 million, despite having bought Fernandes from Southampton in 2025 for just £40 million.
Most recently, West Ham United agreed to transfer Dutch winger Christencio Summerwill to Al Hilal, a club in the Saudi Arabian league, for an enormous £68 million, although they had originally purchased Summerwill from Leeds United for only £25 million.
This means West Ham spent £65 million acquiring Fernandes and Summerwill, but selling both brought in £153 million, marking a truly impressive performance in the transfer market.
However, it remains to be seen whether letting go of these two key players will affect West Ham’s performance as they aim for promotion back to the English Premier League next season.
