Liverpool, take note: Carragher reveals why signing Barcola is not advisable.
Jamie Carragher, the legendary former Liverpool defender, has warned his old club against considering the signing of Bradley Barcola, the French international winger from Paris Saint-Germain, as a replacement for Mohamed Salah this summer.
It is understood that Liverpool is preparing an initial £100 million bid to purchase 23-year-old Barcola from PSG, although PSG values him at £145 million. Liverpool hopes to include various bonus clauses to finalize the deal, knowing the player also desires a move to Anfield.
However, Carragher, now a football analyst, believes Barcola is not the type of player Liverpool should sign to replace Salah.
Carragher stated, "Barcola plays as a left winger! Currently, Liverpool has three players who can play on the left: Rio Ntambwe, Cody Gakpo, and Florian Wirtz. None of them can play on the right."
Carragher's view aligns with data showing Barcola has played more often as a left winger than a right winger for Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
Additionally, Carragher elaborated after a Liverpool fan suggested that Rio Ntambwe should switch from his natural left position to the right.
"Rio has always played on the left, so that’s his best position. To be honest, Liverpool really needs a right winger!"
Regarding Barcola's performance over the past two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, he has scored 34 goals and provided 28 assists.
He played all eight matches for France in the 2026 World Cup, scoring three goals, including one against England in the third-place playoff. Besides Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern Munich remain interested in the French winger.
