Vietnam National Team Coach Criticizes After Draw with Singapore in 2026 ASEAN Cup

Vietnam national team coach sharply criticized the team after a draw with Singapore in the 2026 ASEAN Cup.

Vietnam's coach was frustrated, harshly criticizing the poor performance of the forwards after only managing a draw with Singapore in the 2026 ASEAN Cup.

Kim Sang-sik, head coach of Vietnam’s national team, was dissatisfied with the performance of the forwards after the team could only manage a 0-0 draw against Singapore in the 2026 ASEAN Cup Group A match.

At My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam dominated possession and created numerous scoring chances but failed to convert any into goals.

After the game, Kim Sang-sik singled out Nguyen Dinh Bach, who scored a hat-trick against Timor-Leste in the first match but failed to follow his tactical instructions and missed several scoring opportunities, leading to his substitution before halftime.

Kim Sang-sik said, "Dinh Bach did not execute the coach’s plan well in the first half, so I substituted him before halftime. I know Dinh Bach will be disappointed, possibly even discouraged, especially after gaining confidence from the opening game, but every player must sacrifice for the team’s shared goal."

Meanwhile, Nguyen Dinh Bach acknowledged his disappointing performance and took responsibility for the missed opportunities.

"I missed two scoring chances. If I had converted those, the game would have been much easier. Sometimes football doesn’t go as we want. I will train hard and try to improve in the next match," he said.

The draw awarded one point to each team. Vietnam now has 4 points from 2 matches, sitting third in the group, while Singapore leads Group A with 7 points from 3 matches.
