De Gea awaits! Fiorentina moves to sign Sancho after he became a free agent and was seen training with a 10th division team.
Onefootball reports that Fiorentina, the Italian Serie A club known as the "Purple Giants," has submitted an offer to sign English winger Jadon Sancho, who has been without a club since his contract with Manchester United expired at the end of last season.
The 26-year-old Sancho was loaned to Aston Villa last season. Although part of the Villa squad that won the Europa League, he was unable to convince the club to sign him permanently. He also failed to earn a new contract offer from Manchester United, leading to their parting of ways.
He was recently spotted training at the grounds of Flixton FC, a team in England’s 10th division.
However, Fiorentina has now offered Sancho a three-year contract to consider. Fabio Paratici, Fiorentina’s sporting director, has admired Sancho’s skills for a long time. The offer includes a salary lower than what Sancho has previously earned.
Sancho has not yet accepted, but his team is carefully reviewing the offer to give him a chance to return to the pitch.
It remains to be seen whether Sancho will accept a pay cut and whether he can adapt to the pace and style of Italian football.
If he joins Fiorentina, he will reunite with David De Gea, the goalkeeper and former Manchester United teammate.
Sancho began his career in the academies of Watford and Manchester City before becoming a symbol of a new generation of English players seeking opportunities abroad.
He moved to Borussia Dortmund at age 18 in August 2017, where he made a strong impression, scoring 50 goals in 137 appearances.
In the 2021–22 season, he transferred to Manchester United for £73 million but underperformed, leading to loans back to Dortmund, then Chelsea, and Aston Villa consecutively.
