Owen suggests Arsenal sign a 'key player' after missing out on Vinícius.
Michael Owen, former England international striker, commented that Arsenal should consider signing Marcus Rashford, winger for Manchester United, after missing the chance to acquire Vinícius Júnior, the Brazilian attacker from Real Madrid.
It is understood that Arsenal wants to strengthen the left wing after selling Leandro Trossard. Their primary target was Vinícius, with Arsenal prepared to offer the Real Madrid star the highest salary in Premier League history. However, Vinícius chose to extend his contract with Real Madrid for another six years.
Owen believes Mikel Arteta's team should consider a cheaper alternative. He recommended the Gunners look at Rashford, an England international, who might cost only around £40 million.
“I don’t think Vinícius Júnior would move to Arsenal anyway, but Rashford, I think, makes sense,” Owen said.
“This is a transfer I think could happen, and it makes sense because Arsenal are looking for a left-sided forward.”
“He would fit well into Arteta’s plans and work seamlessly with the current squad, so I think it could happen if Arsenal approach Manchester United.”
Rashford still faces an uncertain future as he prepares to return to United after his loan spell at Barcelona ended.
The 28-year-old expressed a desire to stay at Barcelona, but the club opted to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon instead.
After resting following the 2026 World Cup, Rashford is expected to join Manchester United’s preseason training next week and may play in a friendly against Leeds United on Wednesday, while awaiting clarity on his future.
