Liverpool Shocks by Setting Transfer Price for Key Player

Liverpool has shocked by setting a transfer price for a "key player." The club has now put an official price tag on him.

Tottenham Hotspur is very surprised! Liverpool has set the price at £70 million.

Football Insider, a well-known football media outlet, reported that Tottenham Hotspur, a prominent Premier League club, is extremely surprised that Liverpool has valued Cody Gakpo, the Dutch international winger and their transfer target, at as high as £70 million.

It is understood that Spurs are seeking to strengthen their wing positions before the 2026-27 season starts, and 27-year-old Gakpo is one of their top targets. However, Spurs have been informed that Liverpool will only consider selling Gakpo if Spurs offer at least £70 million and Liverpool can find a suitable replacement first.

These conditions indicate it may be difficult for Spurs to complete the deal late in this summer’s transfer window. Although they highly desire Gakpo, they feel his valuation is too high.

Gakpo transferred from PSV Eindhoven to Liverpool in January 2023, and he has played 180 matches for the Reds, scoring 50 goals in all competitions.

However, Gakpo’s performance fell below expectations in the 2025-26 season, with only 9 goals scored. Consequently, Liverpool is looking for a new winger, linked to Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool will sign a new winger, which will indicate Gakpo’s future—whether he stays or leaves Anfield. Given the high asking price, a move seems unlikely, and if a new signing arrives, Gakpo might be relegated to a backup role.
