Vietnamese media are worried that no one has purchased the live broadcast rights for the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 after the price was set at nearly 100 million baht.
On 10 August 2026, the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 will take place from 24 September to 3 October. According to Thanh Nien newspaper, so far no media or company in Vietnam has secured live broadcast rights. The main reason is the much higher-than-expected price. The rights distributor has offered the Vietnamese market approximately 3 million US dollars, or about 98 million baht, which matches the price for broadcast rights in Thailand.
Previously, FIFA assigned the primary rights distributor to allocate the live broadcast rights to participating countries. This year's tournament includes a total of 20 matches, with 13 matches in Division 1, the strongest group that includes Vietnam. This consists of 12 group stage matches and 1 final match. The other 7 matches are in Division 2.

Without a solution to revenue issues, the risk of losses is high, deterring any agency from investing fully.
Reports say at least one large company has begun negotiations for the rights, but both parties have yet to reach a final agreement due to differences over contract value.
