Heavy Backlash Against Tielemans Prompts Immediate Response Over Hurtful Words After Manchester United Move

Heavy backlash hits "Tielemans" who quickly responds over hurtful words after moving to Manchester United.

On 13 August 2026, Yuri Tielemans, the Belgian national team midfielder, made his latest statement following harsh criticism after he told the media he moved from Aston Villa to a bigger club, Manchester United, a fellow Premier League competitor.

The 29-year-old midfielder recently joined Manchester United from Aston Villa this summer on a five-year contract after the "Red Devils" triggered his £35 million release clause. During his three years at "the Villans," Tielemans played 134 matches and scored 10 goals.

The drama arose during Manchester United’s preseason tour when Tielemans praised Aston Villa for helping him regain his top form but added, "However, there are clubs bigger than Villa, and Manchester United is one of them."

His remark upset many Aston Villa fans, leading Tielemans to quickly post an explanation and apology on his personal Instagram to quell the controversy.

Tielemans' message said, "I did not intend for my words in yesterday’s interview to hurt anyone’s feelings or to disrespect Aston Villa, a club I deeply respect and am grateful to for the past three years."

"Nevertheless, I accept my mistake and apologize for my inappropriate choice of words. Going forward, I will be more careful and wish the club every success in the future."
