Previously, rumors suggested that the 33-year-old keeper was under consideration by Chelsea after their first-choice goalkeeper Robert Sanchez performed poorly in the opening Premier League match of the 2026-27 season, despite Chelsea winning 3-2.
Recently, Chelsea advanced negotiations and successfully reached an agreement with Aston Villa to sign Martinez for £7.5 million.
Martinez has made 256 appearances for Aston Villa since joining from Arsenal in February 2020. He played a key role in helping Aston Villa qualify for the UEFA Champions League and win the Europa League last season.
