Why pay too much? Man Utd will wait to sign Lewis Hall next year, hoping his transfer fee will drop like Baleba's.
The Red Devils, Manchester United, a Premier League giant, have not given up on signing Lewis Hall, Newcastle United's left-back, aiming to bring him to Old Trafford. However, they plan serious moves next year, hoping his fee will decrease.
Hall was Man Utd's top left-back target during the just-closed summer 2026 transfer window. Newcastle was willing to sell but set a high price of £75 million, and Man Utd made no offer.
Nonetheless, Man Utd has not abandoned the chance to sign Hall in 2027. According to The Sun, Man Utd still has a long-term plan for Hall and has laid the groundwork for a possible deal next year, similar to what INEOS, the club’s co-owner, did with Carlos Baleba.
Man Utd tried to sign Baleba last summer but did not want to pay more than the £100 million Brighton demanded.
Baleba strongly wanted to join Man Utd and finally achieved this late last month when the Red Devils signed him from Brighton for only £70 million.
Manchester United signed midfielders Baleba, André Santos, and Youri Tielemans, and also addressed goalkeeper issues by acquiring Karl Darlow.
United still want to sign a left-back and may aim to solve this when the transfer window opens again in January.
