Liverpool star reveals he almost transferred this summer after Premier League rivals showed interest, expressing deep regret.
On 8 September 2026 GMT+7, Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister openly shared that he nearly left Liverpool during this summer's transfer window, speaking at a press conference before the UEFA Champions League 2026-27 group stage opener at home against Atlético Madrid on Wednesday, 9 September GMT+7.
Alexis Mac Allister transferred from Brighton to Liverpool in June 2023 and currently has a contract until 2028. He admitted he nearly moved clubs during the summer transfer window that closed on 1 September.
The 27-year-old midfielder confessed feeling disappointed that Liverpool did not offer him a new contract, despite having options to transfer this summer, whereas teammates Dominic Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch received contract extensions.
Recently, Mac Allister spoke about his future with the "Reds," saying, "I was informed the club is not currently in a position to offer me a new contract, which of course makes me very disappointed."
"Everyone can see I give 100% effort to this club every day, both in training and matches. Certainly, like anyone, I have good and bad games, but I always give my best."
"I saw Dominic and Ryan sign new contracts and I’m happy for them because they deserve it. At the same time, it makes me a little sad that I haven't been offered a new deal."
"However, there is still time left. Fans need not worry because I will give 100% effort until my last day here."
Mac Allister, who has been linked with a move to Manchester City, revealed he has had no direct contact with Liverpool regarding the decision not to renew his contract. "We have won the Premier League together, gone through tough times together, and I have always given my all. So, we will have to wait and see what happens."
"I don’t think I need to prove anything special, but I must show the level of my ability and hope my performances reflect that."
"I love this club, love the fans. I know this is a great club and this city has something special. I’m happy to be here."
"There was an option to move clubs this summer, but I believe I’m at the right club now and have the right attitude to give 100% commitment to this team."
