Bruno Fernandes Opens Up After Manchester Uniteds Home Defeat Despite Man City Playing With 10 Men, Explains Phil Fodens Red Card

Bruno Fernandes, the Portuguese midfielder, opened up after Manchester United lost at home despite Manchester City being reduced to 10 men, explaining the circumstances around Phil Foden's red card.

On 14 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Bruno Fernandes, the Portuguese captain and midfielder, spoke out following Manchester United's 0-1 home defeat to Manchester City, led by Italian coach Enzo Maresca, under the management of English manager Michael Carrick. The defeat came even though Manchester City had only 10 players from the first half, after Phil Foden of the visitors received a red card.

After the defeat, which was Manchester United's second loss in just four matches of the 2026-27 season, Bruno Fernandes said, "This was not a memorable game. Our team had issues with scoring and defending. These are areas that urgently need improvement since we failed to capitalize on having more players and score against them."

Additionally, the 32-year-old star addressed the red card incident involving Phil Foden, in which he was involved: "Initially, I challenged and fouled Phil Foden. He saw it as a normal football tackle and a routine foul. But when Phil Foden kicked back at me (around the stomach area), that was a clear off-the-ball incident."
