Just rumors! Lewis Hall shrugged off the links to Manchester United and said he made the right choice to extend his contract with Newcastle.
Lewis Hall, the left-back for the Magpies, Newcastle United, confirmed he was unaffected by the summer rumors linking him to the Red Devils, Manchester United, and plans to remain with Newcastle for a long time, leading to his decision to sign a new contract.
The 22-year-old player was seen as one of Manchester United’s top left-back targets during the summer transfer window, with reports suggesting he was interested in moving to Old Trafford.
However, Newcastle clearly showed they were unwilling to sell Hall, and just days after the transfer window closed, Newcastle announced Hall had signed a long-term contract, keeping him at the club until 2031.
Hall said, “Not at all. To be honest, it didn’t affect me (the Manchester United rumors). I think whenever you’re linked with other teams, you know you’re doing something right. I see it as credit for your performance and who you are as a footballer.”
“I see it as a positive, but at the same time, I know how much I love playing here, and since the manager came in, I understand the ambition and what we want to achieve.”
“After a few conversations and training sessions, I knew this manager would do well with this club. I also realized it’s important for the team to bring in new players and develop. Once that was underway, signing the contract was an easy decision.”
“Of course, I’m very grateful for the contract and the trust from the board and the manager, but I just take it game by game, trying my best for this club.”
“We have ambitions, and as long as we meet those goals, I’m confident I’ll be here for a long time.”
Despite being sad about Howe’s departure, it’s clear Hall is very happy working under Newcastle’s new head coach, Matthias Jaissle.
“He’s a great guy, very good to me. He gives me the freedom to express myself as long as I fulfill my defensive duties and run as much as needed for the position, which is quite demanding. I’m happy to do that if it benefits the team. He’s been a good role model for everyone who has come in so far.”
