Roy Keane's latest remarks on Manchester City cause a stir after the club was found guilty of all financial regulation violations.
"Roy Keane" declared that if he had ever been a Manchester City player, he would throw away all his championship medals after the "Citizens" were found guilty of every financial rule breach.
Roy Keane, former Manchester United captain and midfielder, criticized Manchester City's owners as "cheaters" and said players who had received medals from the club should discard them, following the Premier League's ruling that City was seriously guilty of all financial misconduct charges.
An independent commission found that Manchester City created “disguised contracts” with various commercial partners to conceal over £800 million in funding, inflating the club’s revenue beyond reality, along with other agreements that understated the club’s expenses between 2009 and 2018.
Keane said, "You know, they [Manchester City's owners] knew it would hurt many people, but they did it anyway."
"If I had been a City player who succeeded during that time, I would definitely throw those medals away. You would feel very disappointed with the club because it was cheating. It's ridiculous to say they won on the field—they cheated. Cheating really happened."
Keane also spoke about what Manchester City will face in the coming weeks: "It’s tough for the current players and manager because they trusted owners who were willing to cheat."
"It will be very difficult for these players to maintain their professionalism and excellence."
Meanwhile, Manchester City continues to maintain its innocence and has until 2 Oct 2023 GMT+7 to file an appeal.
