Iraola Frustrated as Liverpool Faces Two Latest Injury Setbacks Before Villarreal UCL Matchday 3

Iraola frustrated as Liverpool faces two latest injury setbacks before Villarreal UCL matchday 3;

On 20 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Andoni Iraola, Liverpool's manager, whose team ranks fifth in the English Premier League, revealed the latest updates ahead of their UEFA Champions League 2026-27 group stage matchday 3. Liverpool will host Villarreal, who are 12th in Spain's La Liga, tonight at 2:00 AM GMT+7.

Andoni Iraola confirmed that Liverpool will be missing two more injured players: Hungarian international midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai and Dutch right-back Jeremy Frimpong, both substituted in the recent 2-1 away win over Brentford last Saturday.

Regarding Jeremy Frimpong, the Liverpool manager said he might only return after the November international break, roughly one month away. "Frimpong has a new muscle injury, so it's difficult to predict exactly when he'll be back."

"We have to wait for his full recovery, but it looks unlikely he'll be available before the break. We'll do our best, but it's tough to expect him to play during this period."

As for Dominik Szoboszlai, who is dealing with a hamstring problem, his injury is not as severe as Frimpong's but he is also expected to miss the match against Villarreal. "Szoboszlai's case is different. It's not a new injury but a recurring issue that has persisted throughout the past week."

"His condition hasn't worsened, but we need to be patient until he fully recovers. It's not a long-term absence. The situation remains much the same as last week."

"I appreciate what he did recently, being ready and eager to participate in a very tough, physically demanding game against Brentford. His willingness to step up and play was commendable."

Liverpool currently has five injured players for the upcoming match against Villarreal: Dominik Szoboszlai, Jeremy Frimpong, Giovanni Leon, Hugo Ekitike, and Conor Bradley.
