Man Utd Decides Quickly After Reports Targeting Conte to Replace Carrick

Man Utd has made a prompt decision after reports suggested Antonio Conte might replace Michael Carrick as manager.

On 23 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Samuel Luckhurst, a prominent Manchester United journalist from The Sun, revealed the latest updates about Antonio Conte, a leading candidate to become the new manager of the "Red Devils" if Premier League club Manchester United dismisses Michael Carrick.

Reports from Italy indicate that Antonio Conte is interested in managing Manchester United after discussions with his team following the UEFA Champions League group stage matchday 3, in which United suffered a heavy 1-4 defeat to Como last Wednesday.

The former Chelsea and Tottenham manager has made two demands to Manchester United: full control over transfer decisions to select players aligned with his team strategy, and the appointment of a trusted new coaching staff to assist him.

However, it was recently revealed that Antonio Conte is not seriously considered by Manchester United, with arguments that he does not fit the club’s intended management structure.

Although Conte has achieved league titles with Juventus, Chelsea, Inter Milan, and Napoli and has a more prominent personality than Michael Carrick, he is seen as a risk due to his hot-tempered nature and a history of conflicts with club owners regarding transfer spending.

As a result, Manchester United is turning to other options for a new manager to replace Michael Carrick. Currently, Eddie Howe, former Newcastle United manager, and Julian Nagelsmann, former Germany national team coach and both currently unemployed, are among the candidates linked to the role.
