Is There Anything Hidden? Xabi Alonso Opens Up Before Chelsea's Visit to Liverpool in the 2026-27 Carabao Cup Round of 16
On 28 Oct 2026, Xabi Alonso, the Spanish manager of Premier League giants Chelsea, spoke ahead of his team's trip to face Liverpool, managed by fellow countryman Andoni Iraola, at Anfield in the 2026-27 English Carabao Cup Round of 16.
Xabi Alonso said, “Coming back to Anfield always holds a special meaning for me. The atmosphere and memories here remain as wonderful as ever. But as Chelsea's manager, my duty today is to focus on my team and guide them into the next round.”
“Cup football allows no room for mistakes. The Carabao Cup is one of the trophies we aim to win. Chelsea has a strong squad, and we will rotate players as appropriate, while maintaining our playing structure and quality.”
“Liverpool at home is one of the most dangerous teams. They play with passion and the support of their fans. We must control the game's tempo and avoid letting the match open up in their favor. Patience and decision-making in key moments will decide this game.”
