Legendary "Kazu," the world's oldest footballer, scored a goal at age 59 — his first in nearly four years.
On 27 July 2026 GMT+7, Kazuyoshi Miura, the world's oldest professional footballer, scored his first goal in nearly four years at age 59, while playing for Fukushima United, a J3 League club in Japan.
Miura scored in the 52nd minute, extending Fukushima's lead to 5-0, as they went on to crush Iwaki Furukawa 7-0 in the Emperor's Cup qualifying round last Saturday.
This marked his first official competitive goal since November 2022, when he scored for Suzuka PG (now Atlético Suzuka) against FC Osaka.
Nicknamed "King Kazu," he is one of Japan's most beloved footballers and was a key figure in promoting the J.League when it was founded in 1993.
Kazuyoshi Miura began his professional career with Santos in Brazil in 1986 and has also played abroad in Italy, Croatia, and Australia.
This veteran striker is about to start his 42nd season after extending his loan contract with Fukushima (from Yokohama FC, a J2 League team) until June 2027.
Although Miura signed with Yokohama in 2005, he has not played a single minute for the club since 2020.
He scored 55 goals in 89 appearances for Japan's national team and has publicly stated his intention to continue playing professional football until he turns 60.
