The turning point of this Madrid Derby came in the 50th minute when Real Madrid's Dean Hausen committed a penalty offense and received a red card. Alejandro Grimaldo then scored to give Atlético Madrid the lead at 1-0 in the 53rd minute, followed by Jonathan David’s goal in the 59th minute to extend the lead to 2-0.
Although Real Madrid pulled a goal back to 1-2 with a header from Antonio Rüdiger in the 89th minute, they could not equalize and ultimately lost the match.
In their next fixtures, Real Madrid will face Villarreal on 10 Oct, while Atlético Madrid will play an away game against Alavés on the same day.
