A reaction clip of Trent Alexander-Arnold went viral after he saw Real Madrid teammate Brahim Diaz choose a Panenka penalty in the AFCON final, only to miss in an unbelievable fashion.
On 19 January 2026 GMT+7, one of the most talked-about moments of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final occurred when a clip of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Real Madrid’s right-back, went viral on social media after seeing his teammate Brahim Diaz decide to take a Panenka-style penalty and miss in an incredible way.
The tense final in Morocco, the host nation, against Senegal was filled with pressure. Morocco was awarded a crucial penalty that could have decided the continental championship. However, Brahim chose to softly chip the ball down the center, only for Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to easily catch it.
In a Twitch livestream, Trent, watching the game with his younger brother, was caught on camera at the moment he saw Brahim’s decision. He looked stunned before immediately leaving the frame, leaving his brother to exclaim in shock at what had just happened.
After the missed chance, Morocco failed to recover, conceded a goal during extra time, and lost 1-0 to Senegal, missing out on the title in front of their home fans.
Although Panenka penalties have historically succeeded in major finals, the risky choice under such high pressure led many to question Brahim’s decision, making it one of the most discussed moments of the tournament.
