Nottingham Forest had to wait until the penalty shootout to defeat Midtjylland and secure their place in the Europa League quarterfinals.

In the second leg of the Europa League Round of 16 on Thursday, 19 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Midtjylland hosted Nottingham Forest, who had lost the first leg 0-1.

At the 41st minute, Forest took the lead 1-0 when Nicolás Domínguez headed the ball into the net, and the first half ended with that score.

In the second half, at the 52nd minute, Forest extended their lead to 2-0 through Ryan Yates, but Midtjylland pulled one back at the 69th minute with a goal from Martin Erlić.

After 90 minutes, Forest won the match 2-1, but the aggregate score was tied 2-2, leading to extra time. No further goals were scored in the full 120 minutes, so the winner was decided by a penalty shootout. Nottingham Forest were more accurate, winning 3-0 on penalties to advance to the quarterfinals.
