Manchester United players return to the England national team after 18 months. Thomas Tuchel has called up Kobby Meuné and Harry Maguire for friendlies as they aim for the 2026 World Cup.
On 20 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Manchester United players have been recalled to the England national team after 18 months. Thomas Tuchel called up Kobby Meuné and Harry Maguire for two friendlies, giving them a chance to compete for a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
Since Kobby Meuné and Harry Maguire were last called to the England squad in September 2024, no Manchester United players had been selected for the national team during the past 18 months. Meuné is the first to return after this period, while Maguire is returning after nearly two years, having had limited playing time under previous coach Rúben Amorim.
However, Kobby Meuné seems revitalized under interim coach Michael Carrick, who favors him and has given him regular playing time, leading to strong form. This England call-up is especially significant as it is the final camp before the 2026 World Cup.
Thomas Tuchel, the German coach of the England team known as the "Three Lions," said, "It is very pleasing that he is back on the field. He is a great talent who has played through entire tournaments for England, so he is back in the picture."
