Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, spoke openly ahead of his team's clash with Liverpool in the FA Cup quarterfinals.
Pep Guardiola, manager of the "Citizens" Manchester City, stated that if his team wants to beat Liverpool in tonight's FA Cup quarterfinal, they must perform at the same level as when they defeated Arsenal to win the Carabao Cup earlier.
“They (Liverpool) are the greatest rivals (during Pep's time managing Man City), a top-level opponent full of top players. They have been at the pinnacle for many years, so they are a formidable adversary.”
"We have to play at the same level as we did in the game against Arsenal to advance to the next round."
"After winning one trophy, we start thinking about the next. Hopefully, our fans will come to support us in celebrating the title we won last week and cheer us on as we aim to reach the FA Cup semifinals again."
"Reaching the deep stages of cup competitions shows our club's consistency. You can have bad days in cup matches, but fighting to reach the eighth consecutive semifinal means you are truly good."
Additionally, Pep confirmed he is not worried about Phil Foden's form, even though Foden has started only 4 of Manchester City's last 15 matches. He said, "He is only 25 years old, has won the Premier League six times, and his contribution to what we do is incredible. Such fluctuations are normal in a long football career."
