Tragic! Dominic Frimpong, Ghanas Rising Star, Dies in Bus Robbery Attack Returning from Match

Tragic! Dominic Frimpong, a 20-year-old rising star from Ghana, died in an ambush robbery of the Beleckum Chelsea club bus while returning from a domestic league football match.

On 14 April 2026, a tragic incident occurred in the Ghana league when armed assailants ambushed the Beleckum Chelsea club bus during its return from a match.

The Ghana National Police confirmed that Frimpong, a 20-year-old forward for Beleckum Chelsea, died in hospital after being shot during the attack on the team bus.

Six masked men dressed in black, fully armed with assault rifles, blocked the road and opened fire on the bus as the driver tried to reverse away. Thirty players and staff on board fled for their lives into the nearby forest. Sadly, Dominic Frimpong was shot and later died in hospital.

The attack is believed to be a robbery. Such incidents repeatedly affect football clubs in Ghana who must travel long distances between cities.

The Ghana Football Association expressed deep condolences over the loss, calling Frimpong “a promising young player with a bright future, whose dedication and passion reflected the spirit of our league.” They plan to strengthen security measures for team bus convoys. Police are actively searching for the suspects to bring them to justice swiftly.
