Argentine Footballer Released After Joking About Bomb on Plane

An Argentine footballer was released after joking that there was a bomb on the plane.

On 15 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Emiliano Endrizzi, midfielder for Club Gimnasia de Jujuy, was released after being detained for saying there was a bomb on the plane departing from Governor Horacio Guzmán International Airport in Jujuy Province, headed to Buenos Aires, on the afternoon of Saturday, 11 Apr local time. This prompted the airport to immediately enforce maximum security measures, causing flight delays and cancellations, which resulted in significant disruption for airlines and many passengers.

Emiliano Endrizzi was charged with public intimidation and endangering the transport and communication system. Under the measures, Endrizzi must report to police every seven days, notify authorities of any change of address, and is prohibited from leaving the country without court permission.

After his release, Endrizzi publicly expressed remorse via video and social media, stating: "I apologize. I did not intend to cause turmoil or frighten anyone."

Club Gimnasia de Jujuy is considering disciplinary action, which could be as severe as contract termination, because his behavior severely damaged the team's reputation.
