Gary Rowett, manager of Leicester City, is confident the team will recover after relegation from the English second division.
On 22 April 2026, it was one of the most painful nights in the club's history when Leicester City, former Premier League champions, were relegated to League One (the third division) for the first time since the 2008-09 season after a 2-2 home draw with Hull City on Tuesday.
This relegation marks the second consecutive season of demotion, despite the fact that just 10 years ago in 2016, Leicester were Premier League champions.
Gary Rowett, Leicester City's manager, said, “We all know what it means to be a football fan, but here it is extreme. Ten years ago, we won the Premier League, an incredible achievement, and now we have fallen so low.”
“It will hurt for a few days, but I believe this club has the ability to recover. However, there will certainly be major decisions to make in the coming weeks. Difficult choices must happen to steer the club back in the right direction.”
“This is a great club with passionate and devoted fans. Can you hear the voices outside? That is passion, that is disappointment, because they love their club.”
