Following the recent Saudi Arabian football league clash, Al Nassr, the league leaders and Cristiano Ronaldo's club, hosted second-placed Al Hilal. If Al Nassr had won, they would have immediately secured the championship.
Al Nassr performed well, taking a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute through Mohamed Simakan. The match seemed set to end with this score, which would have given Ronaldo his first Saudi league title.
However, in the eighth minute of stoppage time, an unexpected event occurred when Al Hilal threw the ball from the right side deep into the penalty area. Al Nassr's goalkeeper Bento attempted to punch the ball away but accidentally deflected it into his own net, shocking Al Nassr fans and Ronaldo alike. The game ended 1-1.
As a result, Al Nassr did not celebrate the title that night but increased their points to 83, five points ahead of second-placed Al Hilal. Al Nassr has one remaining match against Damac on 21 May; a win there would secure the championship.
Al Hilal still has two matches left and must win both while hoping Al Nassr loses their final game if they want to overtake and claim the title.
Recently, social media shared images of Ronaldo sitting dejectedly on the bench after the match, disappointed because he was so close to celebrating the title, only for the team to concede a late equalizer and postpone their triumph until the final game.
