A reporter from the Government House reported that the Cabinet resolution on 12 May 2026 assigned the Public Relations Department as the main agency to coordinate the live broadcast of the 2026 World Cup, scheduled from 11 June to 19 July 2026 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The detailed roles and responsibilities of the seven agencies to jointly carry out the broadcast within the set timeframe and according to specified procedures are as follows: 1. Assign the Public Relations Department as the main coordinator to manage cooperation across all sectors for a smooth broadcast, coordinating with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) and the private sector concerning broadcasting rights fees and other related costs; 2. Assign the Ministry of Finance to consider tax exemptions related to procurement of broadcasting rights and relax procurement regulations where limitations exist to ensure operational flexibility.
The reporter further reported that: 3. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society is assigned responsibility for the technical aspects of signal transmission and measures to prevent copyright infringement, especially blocking signal leaks to online gambling websites; 4. The Office of the Attorney General is tasked with reviewing contracts and providing legal advice to ensure the legality of broadcasting rights agreements; 5. The Royal Thai Police will maintain order and enforce strict measures to prevent football betting throughout the tournament; 6. The Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will jointly oversee intellectual property rights and coordinate with foreign parties as needed. Additionally, coordination will be made with the National Telecom Public Company Limited and Thaicom Public Company Limited to support signal linking from abroad to Thailand, ensuring wide access to the public via digital terrestrial television and other channels.
