The England national football team is preparing to bring their own mattresses to the 2026 FIFA World Cup to ensure all players get the most complete rest possible.
On 18 May 2026, The Sun, a leading English media outlet, reported that the Football Association (FA) will arrange special beds to be sent to the hotel where the England team will stay during the 2026 World Cup in the United States. This is to address complaints about hotel beds and pillows being too firm and the thinness of the room walls. The FA has collaborated with sleep experts to design personalized beds for each player.
The report also states that the equipment to be used includes special mattress toppers, gel pillows designed to reduce body temperature, and eye and ear masks to aid restful sleep. The England team staff believe that this sleep quality will help players recover better physically and positively impact their performance on the field.
England’s World Cup camp will be at The Inn at Meadowbrook hotel near Kansas City. This hotel was chosen to reduce travel time, allowing players sufficient rest. Additionally, England’s coach Thomas Tuchel places importance on the team environment by decorating players’ rooms with familiar items and photos of family members to create a homely atmosphere.
England’s meticulous preparations reflect a new standard in modern football, focusing not only on tactics but also on sports science and the players’ living environment.
England is placed in Group L alongside Croatia, Ghana, and Panama. Their opening match will be against Croatia at the AT&T Stadium on 17 June 2026 at 21:00 Thailand time.
