"Vozinha" may not be able to use his famous World Cup 2026 nickname on the jersey of his new club.
On 28 Jul 2026 GMT+7, Josimar Jose Evora Dias, known as Vozinha, the 40-year-old Cape Verde national team goalkeeper famed from the 2026 World Cup, may not be allowed to print his nickname on his new club Colo-Colo's jersey, a major Chilean team. This poses a challenge to Colo-Colo's plan to sell jerseys bearing the name Vozinha.
The Chilean Professional Football Association (ANFP) regulation Article 36 clearly states that player jerseys must display only the "paternal and/or maternal surname" (letter height 5–5.5 cm) and prohibits the use of any nicknames, aliases, or pseudonyms.
This means Vozinha might have to print his surnames, either Évora or Dias, instead of his nickname unless the club's management successfully petitions the club presidents' council to amend the competition rules.
Meanwhile, the move to Colo-Colo has increased Vozinha's salary to an estimated 47 million Chilean pesos per month, approximately $48,000 USD monthly, compared to under $10,000 USD per month at his previous club Chaves in Portugal's second division.
According to Chilean media ADN Deportes, the highest-paid players at Colo-Colo by monthly salary are Arturo Vidal at $120,000 USD, Claudio Aquino at $84,000 USD, and Javier Correa at $74,000 USD.
