Marc Pubill, a defender for the Spanish national team, praised fellow countryman winger Lamine Yamal as the best player in the world after helping "La Roja" secure a 3-2 away win against England in the opening match of the 2026 UEFA Nations League last night.
Pubill said, "We have the best player in the world up front. We just pass him the ball, and he takes care of the rest. So it’s very easy."
Nineteen-year-old Yamal is one of the frontrunners for the 2026 Ballon d'Or after winning the 2026 World Cup with Spain and clinching the La Liga title with Barcelona.
However, his major rivals have scored significantly more goals, such as Harry Kane, who netted 73 goals for Bayern Munich and the England national team in the 2025/26 season.
Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappé scored 58 goals for Real Madrid and the French national team. Nonetheless, Yamal has previously said he does not believe goal count should be the deciding factor for this award.
