A look at how many times players from Europe's five major football leagues have won the Ballon d'Or, noting that the Premier League, despite being the most popular, ranks only fourth in total wins.
On 27 Oct 2026 GMT+7, we examined the five major European leagues, counting their top divisions including previous names before their current titles, to see how many Ballon d'Or awards players from each league have won. For statistics, if a player transferred clubs during the award season, the record credits the club the player was officially with when the award was announced.
The rankings show Spain's La Liga in first place with players winning a combined total of 24 Ballon d'Or awards, followed by Italy's Serie A with 18 wins. Germany's Bundesliga stands third with 9 wins, England's Premier League is fourth with 7 wins, and France's Ligue 1 ranks fifth with 2 wins.
