Despite Being Dropped by Liverpool, Mohamed Salah Nominated for BBC Sports Personality of the Year

Despite being dropped by Liverpool, Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah is among the nominees for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, a renowned English media award.

On 9 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian forward for Liverpool, the prominent Premier League club led by Dutch manager Arne Slot, was named as a nominee for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, a prestigious English award. This nomination comes despite recent drama after Salah criticized Arne Slot for dropping him in three consecutive matches.

This led Arne Slot and Liverpool's board to agree on excluding Mohamed Salah, the team's top forward whose form has declined, from the squad for the UEFA Champions League 2025-26 group stage matchday 6 against Inter Milan, the "Nerazzurri," played tonight at 03:00 GMT+7.

Although Mohamed Salah has faced negative publicity, he remains a nominee for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, a respected British news agency award, due to his key role in Liverpool's Premier League championship. He is one of six athletes nominated alongside Mariona Caldentey, Terrence Crawford, Armand Duplantis, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, and Shohei Ohtani.
