Manchester United Shocks by Pursuing 39-Year-Old World Cup Champion Player

Manchester United, known as the "Red Devils," is reported to be pursuing a 39-year-old player who is a World Cup champion.

Cadena SER, a Spanish media outlet, reported that Manchester United, a Premier League giant, has approached experienced defender Sergio Ramos, a member of Spain's 2010 World Cup-winning national team, to join Old Trafford on a free transfer this coming January.

Ramos, aged 39, confirmed himself that he played his last match for Monterrey, a Mexican league club, on 7 Dec and that his contract with the club will expire on 31 Dec.

According to the latest reports, Manchester United has made an offer to recruit Ramos to strengthen their defense next year. The Red Devils recognize his readiness and ability, acting swiftly and considering him a leading candidate to join the team.

However, negotiations are still in the early stages, and Ramos is also looking for a way to return to Europe to conclude his illustrious playing career.

Despite being in the twilight of his career, Ramos has demonstrated his excellence while playing in Mexico. He joined Monterrey in February 2025 and impressed by scoring 7 goals in 32 matches as a center-back.

This is not the first time United has shown interest in Ramos. Back in 2015, United negotiated and offered £28.6 million to buy Ramos from Real Madrid, but ultimately Ramos extended his contract with Real Madrid at that time.
