Wayne Rooney, the former famous striker, has revealed the name of the dark horse team that could win the English Premier League this season.
Wayne Rooney, former England national team forward turned football analyst, warned Arsenal "the Gunners" and Manchester City "the Citizens" not to overlook Liverpool "the Reds" in the race for the Premier League title this season.
Liverpool won the Premier League last season with a commanding 10-point lead, marking Jürgen Klopp's first full season with the Reds. However, they have not performed as well this season. Their poor form from late September to late November seems to have cost Liverpool a chance to defend the impressive title they secured less than six months ago.
Nevertheless, the Reds have improved after their 4-1 loss to PSV in the Champions League, going unbeaten in their last six matches, which has helped them climb to a better position in the Premier League standings.
A hard-fought victory over Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday moved Liverpool up to 5th place in the table heading into the Christmas period. They trail second-place Manchester City by 8 points and league leaders Arsenal by 10 points. Rooney believes there is still a possibility for the Reds to close the gap and challenge for the title.
"It seems Arsenal and Manchester City are leading the Premier League at the top, but Liverpool also have a chance. If they play well and win several games in a row, nothing rules them out. They have a chance to compete," Rooney said.
"I definitely wouldn't rule them out. As for Aston Villa, they've done very well, but I think it would be difficult," Rooney added.
