Ruben Amorim confirms Manchester United has a clear plan for the January transfer window, despite missing out on target Antoine Semenyo, and is confident in his consistent ability to pick good players.
On 25 December 2025, Ruben Amorim, manager of Manchester United, stated that the club has already prepared plans for the January transfer market, even though they must accept the reality that the "Red Devils" are set to lose the race for Antoine Semenyo to their city rivals, Manchester City.
Previously, Manchester United made a strong effort to sign the 25-year-old winger from Bournemouth, Semenyo, but the latest situation shows that Manchester City is ready to activate the £65 million release clause, leaving United, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur disappointed.
However, Amorim confirmed that United will continue to approach the market carefully and will not sign players merely to increase the squad size.
"We have space for new players, but the most important thing for the club is that we have a plan and must bring in players we truly know."
"It's difficult to guarantee everything will work out, but we have to be confident in the players we bring in. If not confident, then we shouldn't bring anyone and should work with the players we already have."
The Portuguese manager admitted that this approach might differ from many other managers, but he believes it is the right direction for both himself and the board.
"We cannot keep repeating past mistakes. We need to get through this period because we still have players returning from international duty and European football."
Amorim also revealed that he does not need much time to assess whether a player fits his team, especially through one-on-one conversations.
"I think I have a good sense about this. Sometimes it's from the way they speak or express themselves. I feel I can detect when someone is not sincere."
"There might be occasional mistakes, but most of the time, I usually make the right judgment."
