This issue dates back to the 2008-09 season when Alan Shearer was appointed interim manager of Newcastle United, the "Magpies," tasked with saving the team from relegation. However, he failed as the team was relegated after winning only one of their last eight matches that season. In the final game, Shearer wanted to start Michael Owen to increase the chance of earning points, but Owen said he was not fit enough to start. Nevertheless, he was brought on during the last 25 minutes. Years later, Shearer stated that Owen should have shown more desire to help the team survive, which greatly upset Owen.
Recently, Michael Owen said, "Actually, every time I meet Alan Shearer, we shake hands normally, and he does the same. That's it, because we don't talk at all. To be honest, it feels like we just don't get along. I actually like him, but he made a huge mistake by saying those things."
