Rio Ferdinand has confidently confirmed that Senne Lammens is the solution for Manchester United's goalkeeper position. Though not flashy, his steadiness is exactly what the Red Devils have been waiting for.
On 27 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Rio Ferdinand, the legendary Manchester United defender, expressed full confidence that Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens will be the club's number one for at least the next 10 years. Although he is not a flashy player or a headline-grabbing transfer, Ferdinand believes in his long-term value.
Manchester United spent more than £200 million on transfers last summer, focusing mainly on attacking players such as Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko. Meanwhile, the signings of Lammens and Diego Leon were quiet deals that attracted less fan attention.
Originally, Manchester United was linked with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez on the final day of the transfer window, but ultimately chose to invest €21 million to acquire Lammens from Royal Antwerp, despite his limited first-team experience of only 52 matches.
However, under the management of Ruben Amorim, the 23-year-old goalkeeper quickly established himself as the first-choice keeper and has shown consistent performances. Most recently, he kept a clean sheet in Manchester United's 1-0 Boxing Day victory over Newcastle, helping the team rise to fifth place in the Premier League.
After the game, Rio Ferdinand spoke on his YouTube live broadcast, saying:
"Lammens is a strong addition to the team. He will definitely be Manchester United's goalkeeper for the next 10 years."
The former England defender also praised Lammens' playing style, describing him as a "rock-solid" goalkeeper without flashy tricks but who performs his role precisely. He knows his positioning well, stands correctly, and confidently comes out to claim the ball in the penalty area, which clearly reduces pressure on the defense.
"You might say he looks boring, but on the pitch, you want him standing behind you. We have been searching for a trustworthy goalkeeper for a long time, and Lammens is that man," Rio said.
