Narrow Escape Reveals Liverpools Weakness After Struggling to Beat Wolves, Rising to 4th in Premier League (Video)

Narrow escape reveals Liverpool's weakness after a tough 2-1 win over bottom-placed Wolves, rising to 4th in the Premier League (Video).

On 28 Dec 2025 GMT+7, interesting statistics emerged after the 18th round of the 2025-26 English Premier League season last night, when Liverpool narrowly defeated the bottom-ranked Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at home.

Liverpool took a 2-0 lead late in the first half with goals from Ryan Gravenberch in the 41st minute and Florian Wirtz in the 42nd. However, Santiago Bueno pulled one back for Wolves from a corner rebound early in the second half in the 51st minute, but the Reds managed to hold on for the win.

After the match, Opta, the football statistics specialist, revealed a major problem for Liverpool: the goal they conceded to Wolves was their 12th conceded from set pieces this Premier League season, out of 26 total goals allowed in 18 games, accounting for 46 percent.

This means Liverpool have conceded more goals from set pieces (corners, throw-ins, free kicks), excluding penalties, than any other Premier League team this season. It remains a significant issue that manager Jürgen Klopp has yet to resolve, despite going unbeaten in the league over the last six matches (four wins, two draws).

Additionally, Liverpool have conceded seven goals from corners in the 2025-26 Premier League season; only West Ham United have conceded more from corners, with ten goals.

Nevertheless, Liverpool increased their tally to 32 points, moving up to 4th place in the standings, staying in the upper group after this game. Meanwhile, Wolverhampton remain winless with just 2 points, stuck at the bottom as before.
