Chelsea Boards Favorite but May Displease Fans! Leading Candidates to Replace Enzo Maresca as New Chelsea Manager

Fabrizio Romano revealed that Enzo Maresca's situation at Chelsea has reached a turning point, while major media outlet The Guardian reported that the board has selected Liam Rosier as the prospective new manager.

On 1 Jan 2026 GMT+7, renowned transfer market journalist Fabrizio Romano disclosed that Enzo Maresca's future with Chelsea hangs by a thread, with a strong possibility that both parties may part ways within the next few hours amid disappointing performances that fall short of the board's expectations.

Although the Italian coach once led the Blues through some impressive moments, the overall picture during his more than one and a half years at Stamford Bridge has been full of questions, especially due to inconsistent form and a continual slide away from competing for Champions League qualification.

Moreover, Maresca's recent ambiguous remarks have been viewed as escalating tensions, while Italian media report that Juventus is closely monitoring his future and prepared to offer a new project if he departs Chelsea.

On the club side, The Guardian and Football FanCast both report that Chelsea have prepared contingency plans should they decide to sack Maresca, with the name most frequently mentioned being Liam Rosier, manager of Strasbourg, one of the teams under BlueCo, Chelsea's sole owner.

Although Rosier has delivered satisfactory results with Strasbourg in Ligue 1, the response from most Chelsea fans has been negative, as he is perceived as merely a mid-level manager lacking sufficient experience to lead a major club like Chelsea back to winning top European titles.

Since the change of ownership, Chelsea has spent over £1 billion on transfers but has only secured the Europa Conference League and the Club World Cup, achievements seen as inconsistent with the club's size and ambitions.

This entire situation reflects that under BlueCo's management, "on-field success" may not be the ultimate goal, but rather following the owner's established model, which could be a key reason why Enzo Maresca's future is nearing an end sooner than many expected.
