Surprise Move: Liverpool Close to Signing In-Form Star with Transfer Fee Exceeding One Billion Baht

The "Reds" Liverpool are reportedly close to signing this in-form player for a transfer fee exceeding 1 billion baht.

The Mirror, citing Ecuadorian media, reports that Liverpool, the Premier League giants, are close to securing Joel Ordóñez, the Ecuadorian international defender from Club Brugge, a strong Belgian league club, to join Anfield this coming January.

Ordóñez, 21, has shown consistent form and is a mainstay for Club Brugge, having made 105 appearances. Meanwhile, Liverpool are seeking a new defender amid uncertainty about Ibrahima Konaté’s future, as well as injuries to Joe Gomez and Giovanni León.

The latest reports indicate that Liverpool are close to signing Joel Ordóñez after agreeing personal terms with the young defender, offering him £60,000 per week—three times his current wage at Club Brugge. Only the transfer fee and further details with Club Brugge remain, expected to finalize at around £35 million (about 1.485 billion baht).

It remains unclear whether Liverpool, if they complete the Ordóñez deal, will continue pursuing Marc Guéhi, the key defender from Crystal Palace, whom they nearly signed in the past summer transfer window.
