Fabrizio Romano reports that Charlotte FC, a notable Major League Soccer club, has expressed interest in acquiring Harvey Elliott on a loan deal.
On 2 January 2026, Fabrizio Romano, a well-known transfer market journalist, reported that Charlotte FC from Major League Soccer (MLS) is interested in signing Harvey Elliott on loan until June.
The situation of the 22-year-old player is uncertain, as he has barely had playing opportunities while on loan at Aston Villa. If Villa decides to return Elliott early, they may have to pay a penalty as per the contract terms.
However, the outcome of this deal mainly depends on the player's decision, as well as Liverpool's stance on whether to bring Elliott back to Anfield and keep him, especially at a time when the team's attacking line is struggling with injuries and inconsistent form.
According to UEFA rules, a player cannot play for more than two clubs in the same season, leaving Elliott with only two options in the January transfer window:
Return to Liverpool
Move to play outside Europe
Currently, Major League Soccer is seen as the most suitable option if Elliott wants consistent playing time and to restart his career path.
