Man United Fans Must Accept: Amorim Reveals No Plans for January Transfers, Focus on Maintaining the Team

Ruben Amorim, the Portuguese manager of Manchester United, revealed there are no plans for reinforcements in the winter transfer window, emphasizing that buying more players is not the solution to the team’s current problems.

On 3 January 2025, Ruben Amorim, the Portuguese head coach of Manchester United, gave a straightforward interview about the club’s direction in the January transfer market, signaling clearly that the "Red Devils" will have little activity in the new year’s transfer window and that everything must proceed according to the established plan.

Manchester United spent over £200 million in last summer’s market to strengthen their squad, particularly in attack, bringing in Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo. However, the chance of new players joining Old Trafford this January now appears very slim.

Although the team still has clear weaknesses—especially in the central midfield position, which was a target in the summer—financial constraints prevented pursuing players like Carlos Baleba or Elliott Anderson. The wing-back position, key to Amorim’s tactics, also remains unresolved to this point.

Amorim admitted that sometimes he holds differing views from football director Jason Wilcox and the board regarding squad reinforcement but affirmed that every deal must find common ground before it can materialize.

“The transfer market will not change. We are not currently discussing any team changes. There is a plan and process that must continue,” Amorim said.

“We are close to the Champions League zone, but there are many teams chasing behind. The most important thing is to focus on the next game and try to secure a victory.”
