Liverpool Shaken as Rival Team Faces Latest Bad News, Launches Immediate Reinforcement Plan Affecting the Reds

Liverpool shaken as a "rival team" receives the latest bad news and immediately launches a reinforcement plan, impacting the Reds.

On 6 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Manchester City, second in the English Premier League, confirmed the bad news that Croatian international defender Joško Gvardiol suffered a broken shinbone in his right leg during the latest home match that ended 1-1 against Chelsea on Sunday.

Manchester City revealed that Joško Gvardiol will undergo surgery later this week and is currently being evaluated to confirm the injury’s severity and expected recovery, but he is expected to be sidelined for several months.

As a result, Manchester City decided to recall 20-year-old young defender Max Allen from his loan spell at Championship club Watford to strengthen the squad for their Premier League home game against Brighton on Wednesday, 7 Jan 2026 GMT+7.

Additionally, reports from all major English media state that Manchester City is urgently considering signing Marc Guehi, Crystal Palace’s captain and defender, in the January transfer window following injuries to Joško Gvardiol, Ruben Dias, and John Stones.

If Manchester City proceeds with signing Marc Guehi this transfer window, it will directly impact Liverpool, their Premier League rival, because the Reds are waiting to sign Guehi on a free transfer after his contract with Crystal Palace expires in June, having missed out in the previous summer window.

Currently, Liverpool shows no signs of paying a transfer fee to Crystal Palace for Marc Guehi during the winter window, while Manchester City may be willing to pay if the price is set below £35 million, seeing reinforcement as necessary to address their defensive shortage.
