Tough road ahead: Manchester United's next six matches after sacking "Amorim" will decide their fate in two competitions this season.
On 6 January 2026, Manchester United's next six fixtures were revealed following the Premier League giant’s sudden decision to dismiss Ruben Amorim as manager, despite currently sitting 6th in the league table.
United has appointed Darren Fletcher, a former player and current U18 coach, as interim manager to replace Ruben Amorim until a permanent head coach is found. Fletcher will begin his tenure with the Premier League match away to Burnley on Wednesday, 7 January.
It is now highly likely that United will have an interim manager until the end of the season before appointing a permanent manager in the summer. However, the upcoming six matches will not be easy, with stakes high in the two remaining competitions as follows.
- United currently sits 6th with 31 points, three points behind 4th-place Liverpool. Their goal is to finish in the top four to secure a return to the UEFA Champions League.
- United will begin their campaign in the third round, aiming for their 14th FA Cup title.
