Liverpool Has Decided on Federico Chiesa Amid January Transfer Interest

Liverpool has made a decision regarding Federico Chiesa after interest from teams to acquire him this January.

On 6 January 2026, Italy's renowned sports outlet Gazzetta dello Sport reported the latest on Federico Chiesa's future in the English Premier League. The Italian international forward has become a substitute at Liverpool under manager Arne Slot.

Federico Chiesa transferred from Juventus last season but has appeared in only 34 matches for Liverpool, starting just 7 games, scoring 4 goals and providing 5 assists. This limited playtime has fueled ongoing speculation about a potential move to secure more regular appearances.

The 28-year-old Chiesa remains under contract with Liverpool until June 2028. However, with no sign that Arne Slot will increase his playing opportunities, his former club Juventus in Italy's Serie A is prepared to bring him back during the January transfer window.

Gazzetta dello Sport recently reported that Liverpool will make a final decision on Federico Chiesa after Mohamed Salah, the Reds' regular starter, returns from representing Egypt in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which concludes on 18 January.

If Liverpool agrees with Juventus, sources say the deal would be a loan until the end of the season. Chiesa seeks more playing time to boost his chances of making Italy's squad for the 2026 World Cup, if they qualify. However, he has not shown interest in a permanent return to Serie A.

Liverpool is reluctant to release another forward after Alexander Isak suffered a serious injury sidelining him for 2–3 months. Meanwhile, Chiesa can cover every attacking position and has proven this season to be a game-changer off the bench for Arne Slot.
