Mikel Arteta openly shared his views following Ruben Amorim's dismissal as Manchester United manager, stating that Amorim deserved support from all parties, but ultimately, performance on the pitch is the final verdict.
On 8 January 2026, Mikel Arteta, Arsenal's manager, commented on Ruben Amorim’s removal as Manchester United manager after failing to meet expectations and encountering issues with the club’s board. He acknowledged it is always sad to see a colleague lose their job.
The Spanish coach said that his experience throughout his managerial career has given him a deep understanding of the enormous pressure that comes with the role, especially at top clubs like Manchester United.
“I can only speak from my own experiences, and it is always sad to see a fellow professional lose their job,” Arteta said.
“We all know what kind of environment we are in, and you need support from the club owners, the staff, and the players.”
Arteta also pointed out that no matter how good the structure or support is, ultimately what determines a manager’s fate is the results on the field.
“In the end, you have to win a lot of football matches to keep your position, and that is the reality and nature of this profession,” the Arsenal manager concluded.
