Dominik Soboszlai openly admitted that Mohamed Salah’s expression of frustration after being dropped was a moment nobody wanted to witness at Anfield.
On 8 January 2026, Liverpool midfielder Dominik Soboszlai acknowledged it was a “not very good” time for the club following Mohamed Salah’s fiery interview last month, in which the Egyptian forward voiced dissatisfaction after being dropped by manager Arne Slot and hinted at a possible rift between them.
Salah became a hot topic immediately after Liverpool’s 3-3 Premier League draw with Leeds United on 6 December, telling the media he felt “made a scapegoat,” and implying that his trust in the Dutch coach was no longer the same.
Shortly after, Slot retaliated by leaving the Egyptian forward out of the UEFA Champions League squad for the away match at Inter Milan, which Liverpool won 1-0 thanks to a penalty by Soboszlai. Salah was then included again for the next league game against Brighton, coming on in the first half as the Reds secured a 2-0 victory.
Subsequently, Salah traveled to represent Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, performing impressively with three goals and helping his team reach the quarterfinals, which means he has been unavailable to assist his club during this period.
Soboszlai spoke to Sky Sports about the matter, saying,
“It’s never good to see something like that, but he’s professional enough to handle the situation. I never got involved.”
“I’m by his side every day. If he wants to talk or needs help, he has the strong character to get through this.”
The Hungarian international midfielder also emphasized that everyone in the team hopes for Salah’s return after AFCON to contribute as he did last season, and admitted that as a teammate, he fully recognizes Salah’s capabilities.
“As a friend and teammate, I really enjoy playing with him. I know what he’s capable of, and last season he proved he can do it all.”
