Liam Rosemeire sent a direct message to Chelsea fans from his first day in the role, stressing that his aim is not merely to stand on the sidelines but to quickly lead the team back to winning.
On 8 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Liam Rosemeire, the new head coach of Chelsea, spoke openly for the first time about his decision not to manage the team during the Premier League match where the Blues lost 1-2 away to Fulham last Wednesday, admitting the time between his appointment and the match was too short.
The 41-year-old coach, who signed a six-year contract with Chelsea on Tuesday after transferring from Strasbourg, said that although he traveled with the team and was at Craven Cottage stadium, he did not want to rush into managing without properly preparing the squad.
"I flew in from Strasbourg yesterday morning, and the timeframe was quite tight for me to instill the tactical details I wanted, to give the players the best chance to win," Rosemeire said.
The former Premier League defender also admitted that one key reason was the impressive performance of the previous coaching staff in the prior game, which greatly impressed him.
"The players’ performance, especially in the second half, was full of energy, intensity, and quality. I feel that is something that should be continued."
Rosemeire emphasized his complete confidence in the staff and players, even though he had not yet officially started working on the pitch.
"I have full faith in the players and believe they will perform well."
Additionally, the new Blues coach shared his personal feelings about this major career opportunity, reaffirming his clear goal from day one.
"I’m very excited and can hardly wait. Ever since I was young, I’ve always said I wanted to be a coach."
"For this opportunity, the most important thing is not just to be Chelsea’s manager but to be Chelsea’s manager who leads the team to victories. That’s the message I have sent to the players since the first day I met them."
"We need to start as soon as possible in the remaining part of the season."
