Close to Finalizing! Manchester United Manager Candidates Prepare to Meet Executives, Nearing Replacement for Rúben Amorim

Ben Jacobs reports that Manchester United is proceeding cautiously, preparing to officially interview Ole Gunnar Solskjær after dismissing Rúben Amorim and appointing Darren Fletcher as interim manager.

On 10 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Ben Jacobs, a well-known football transfer journalist, reported that Manchester United is arranging a one-on-one meeting with Ole Gunnar Solskjær, the club's former manager, today to discuss the possibility of his return as interim manager until the end of the season.

The report states that this move follows Manchester United's decision to sack Rúben Amorim as head coach and appoint Darren Fletcher as caretaker manager amid a situation where the club wants to be cautious in selecting someone to recover results in the season's final stretch.

Besides Solskjær, Michael Carrick, the club's legendary former midfielder, is another key candidate. He met with senior executives Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox last Thursday.

However, sources close to the club confirm that Manchester United has no immediate plans to appoint an interim manager until formal face-to-face discussions have taken place with all candidates, including considering the perspective of Darren Fletcher, who is currently managing the team.

Although both Solskjær and Carrick have previously communicated online with the club, Manchester United's board has made it clear that the final decision will be made only after official in-person interviews.
